Nature Adventure ‚Saußbachklamm’ – along the roaring torrent

South of Waldkirchen you’ll find one of the most beautiful nature reserves in the Bavarian Forest – the wild and romantic Saussbach gorge. An easy walkable footpath leads from the crossing Ringmauerstraße/Erlenhain to Saußmühle. The Saussbach gorge begins right here with its deeply cut canyon.

Over the millenia, the Saussbach river has carved its way through the landscape. Huge granite blocks were left over braving the gushing waters. A true wonder of nature in the midst of luxuriant natural vegetation.

In 1939, the Saussbach gorge was declared a protected landscape area. Starting at a small dam, the trail passes a power house, runs along the canal of the power unit and back to Waldkirchen. Or you go straight on in the direction of Karoli – Badepark. At the Badepark you take the Hauzenberger street for getting back to the centre of Waldkirchen.

Special tip for families: The Haller Alm, nestled amidst striking scenery and the gorge, is waiting for its visitors like a tiny witch’s house. The little rustic eatery offers hearty snacks in a breathtaking natural setting where the kids can climb and clamber over rocks.
